What is a Non-Traditional Investment?
Historically a Traditional Investment Portfolio is one made up of stocks, bonds and cash. Mutual funds have been used to balance and complete the portfolio. However, they are still subject to the volatility and return of the market. Non-Traditional Investments are made outside of the stock market. They consist of investments mainly made in Trust Deeds, Commodities, Real Estate and Absolute Returns. One of the ground breaking leaders in the shift from portfolios exclusively weighted with Traditional Investments is the Yale Endowment (click here for full annual report).
